UofT Family Housing
The University of Toronto’s Family Housing Division builds and operates housing for both faculty and students in the neighborhoods adjacent to the St. George downtown Campus. These three houses were procured by the University in a state of disrepair, Denegri Bessai sought to revitalize these historic masonry buildings while preserving the unique characteristics of their construction, while simultaneously dividing the houses into equal parts — 3 units per house.
We developed a suite of standardized elements to incorporate into each unit that at once simplifies construction and also provide a backdrop of which exaggerates the preserved elements of the house. Through a minimal intervention the houses were reconfigured and revitalized to suitably house families that will be contribute to the universities milieu.
